Curated Artifacts

Breakfast Club photograph, landscape image of students sharing a meal outdoors.

Artifact 1: Breakfast Club

Title: Breakfast Club
Date: 10/7/26
Genre: Community building
Media: Photograph and text

This photograph captures my classmates and I sharing a meal during a Breakfast Club assignment. I chose this because the group setting shows the connections we created by sitting together, starting conversations, and making space for people who were still getting to know one another.

The photograph represents more than eating together: it shows my willingness to step outside my comfort zone and participate in building a community. During the meal, I initiated conversations and helped keep them flowing, which strengthened my communication skills. This image shows how I use conversation and openness to build relationships with the people around me.

Skills showcased:
Technical: Selecting and presenting a photograph for a class assignment.
Intellectual: Reflecting on communication, confidence, and relationship-building.
Creative: Using a meaningful group photograph to tell a story about community.

Artifact 2: Sorority recruitment experience

Title: Sorority recruitment experience
Date: 9/20/26
Genre: Communication
Media: Photograph and text

I selected this photograph of my sorority house because it represents the setting where I experienced an important period of personal growth. The house symbolizes the community I was entering and the connections I worked to build during recruitment. Throughout the week, I practiced introducing myself, discussing my interests and values, and listening to new people.

Those conversations helped me become more confident and strengthened my interpersonal communication skills. This photograph connects the physical space of the sorority house to my growth in confidence, my willingness to step outside my comfort zone, and my understanding of how meaningful communities are built.

Skills showcased:
Technical: Selecting and presenting a photograph that supports the artifact meaning.
Intellectual: Analyzing how communication, confidence, and community shaped my experience.
Creative: Using the sorority house as a visual symbol of belonging and personal growth.

Artifact 3: Self-introduction presentation

Title: Self-introduction presentation
Date: 9/7/26
Genre: Self introduction
Media: Presentation, photographs and text

This presentation was for my Univ class. I used photographs and text to introduce the interests, activities, and experiences that make up who I am. I selected images that connect deeply to my identity so my peers and teachers could understand me beyond a simple introduction.

Each photograph represents something meaningful, while the order and design of the slides create a visual story about my life. Organizing the images in an aesthetically pleasing way allowed me to combine creativity with clear communication. This artifact shows how I can choose purposeful visuals, arrange them thoughtfully, and use visual storytelling to create a personal connection with an audience.

Skills showcased:
Technical
: Organizing photographs and text into a clear, polished presentation.
Intellectual: Reflecting on the interests, experiences, and values that shape my identity.
Creative: Combining visual selection, slide design, and personal storytelling to introduce myself.

The narrative evolution

Carly Silverman is a writer whose work engages the intersection of archival history and contemporary identity. Her work is founded on the idea that each object has a story that must be told. She celebrates the raw textures of paper and the intellectual depth of scholarly inquiry, with a minimalist eye capturing her preferred writing artifacts and the evolving self.

I am a student at UConn who enjoys being creative, learning new things, and connecting with others. I like expressing myself through writing, design, and visual storytelling. I also enjoy organizing ideas and finding ways to present my work so it is clear and visually appealing. My college experiences have helped me build confidence, improve my communication skills, and become more open to different perspectives.

As a writer and content creator, I want to continue developing professionalism, storytelling, and clarity. I want my projects to be organized and complete, and my writing to be engaging and easy to understand. My strengths in organization, editing, describing things, and creativity will help me reach these goals.

My personal mission is to become as confident as possible and learn to trust myself. I want to approach life with kindness, embrace my uniqueness, and become the best version of myself. I also plan to pursue my goal of becoming a radiation therapist while continuing to grow as a student, professional, and person.

Curator's Note

My time at UConn has greatly contributed to my interpersonal relationships, communication abilities, and self confidence. Through my three artifacts, I can show a progression in my increased self confidence within interpersonal relationships, communication with others, and comprehension of others.

In the Breakfast Club photo one can observe the way in which building relationships can be achieved through dining and conversation. Within my sorority house photo I can show my comfort in stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying new experiences during recruitment. For my self- introductory presentation I can show my communication as an active student and content producer.

I share my experiences and interests through text and images to my peers. The use of images helps me to able to provide my peers with a view into my life and allow for a more personal relationship between myself and my audience. The accompanying text provides context to the importance of the images to me.

Through these artifacts I am able to observe how my experiences have affected me and my relationships with others. I have also grown in my ability to be open to new relationships and attitudes. My portfolio also helps to show my comfort with my self expression and involvement within a community.
